Muffet McPhail’s 4/5 LEAP curriculum for the 2022-2023 school year includes:
PLTW Launch Variation of Traits (Biomedical Science)
Students investigate the differences between genetic traits that are inherited and traits that are learned or influenced by the environment. As they learn about dominant and recessive genes, students explore the phenomenon that offspring may express different traits than parents. As a culminating problem, students identify a question they would like to investigate regarding population genetics. Once they have determined their question, students perform a study to gather data to answer their question. Students draw conclusions about what the data indicates and present their findings.
PLTW Launch Stability and Motion: Science of Flight (Engineering)
Students use aerodynamic concepts to explain how the motion of air and other forces act on gliders and other aircraft. Students design, build, and test an experimental model glider as they learn about the forces involved in flight. In addition, students apply the engineering design process to the problem of airlifting supplies to a remote area.
PLTW Launch Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions (Engineering)
Students explore, design, sketch, and build both simple and compound machines that demonstrate the use of forces. They test the force of magnets and explore the interaction of the magnetic poles. Students use the skills and knowledge gained in the module to solve an open-ended, real-world problem. As students work through this module, they engage in hands-on experiences and use a step-by-step process to solve problems.
Personal Finance
It’s never too early to start saving! In this Dave Ramsey six-week course, students will learn the following:

- Income/Careers
The Stock Market Game
Students participate in an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students grades 4-12 in the world of economics, investing and personal finance and that has prepared nearly 20 million students for financially independent futures.
